GIVEN SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES
This is really not a dark poem, but if you’re craving one,
I could certainly oblige.
Other than that, I’ve been trying to be more upbeat lately
even though on the inside it’s mostly been stormy
and a flood of water is up to my knees.
Given such circumstances, I think I’ll just make myself
a cup of tea and concoct a movie in my brain in which the guy
gets the girl in spite of his crooked teeth, bad breath, and the fact
that he lied about winning the lottery and will never have to work again
or put up with anyone’s bullshit…
