IN THEORY
Playing favorites isn’t strictly a human game.
Just watch hedgehogs, baboons, and old videos
of buffaloes.
It will make you want to be alone to try to find
your real self.
If only you didn’t have to smile and work at some
meaningless job to keep a roof over your head
you could almost be happy once in a blue moon…
at least in theory…
Jeffrey Zable is a teacher, conga drummer/percussionist who plays
Afro-Cuban folkloric music for dances classes and rumbas around
the San Francisco Bay Area, and a writer of poetry, flash-fiction,
and non-fiction. He’s published five chapbooks and his writing
