SARAH THURSDAY

Apology to the Palm Trees

I called you false
branchless spindles
vindictive fronds
hung like heavy fingers

you are undefinable
how you ignore gravity
how you sink through earth
like veins in muscles
indistinguishable

you live in sky
like blue is bed
like wind is exhale
I thought you ugly
thought you pointless

until I saw your defiance as purpose
how you live in narrow surface
so little displaced below

forgive me
for dismissing your relevance
for casting you vixen of Hollywood Boulevard

I’m sorry
we, villains of convention
should stand together
